Privacy Policy

This policy describes the information collected when someone visits Wapello County Criminal History, the purposes for which it is used, and the limited circumstances in which another party may receive it. Use of the website constitutes acceptance of these practices.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or location entered in a search tool is transmitted directly to the outside provider that operates that feature. The provider processes the query and supplies its results. We do not retain or log those search terms on our systems.

Messages and Contact Submissions

When a visitor sends an email, we keep the message as needed to respond. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.

Data We Gather Automatically

Our servers automatically receive certain technical details when a page loads:

  • Page-view timestamps
  • The referring website, when available
  • Pages viewed and approximate time spent on them
  • Device category and operating system
  • Browser type and version
  • The device's assigned IP address

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small files saved on a device. We use them with analytics services to understand aggregate traffic, such as which Wapello County record pages receive visits and where users leave. A browser can block cookies, although doing so may change how some features work.

What We Do With This Data

  • Identifying and repairing technical problems
  • Operating the website and maintaining its performance
  • Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
  • Routing a query to the selected search partner
  • Assessing which pages are useful and where improvements are needed

No Criminal-Record Data on File

Wapello County Criminal History does not maintain, compile, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes general directions to the Wapello County Sheriff, Iowa District Court, Iowa DCI repository, and Iowa Sex Offender Registry. We are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and visitor information is not assembled into consumer reports or third-party criminal record files.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies operate the search boxes. Information entered there is subject to the selected partner's privacy policy rather than this policy. We do not control a provider's retention or disclosure practices, so review its terms before sending a query.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to Wapello County offices, Iowa court and agency portals, legal resources, or outside search services. Once a visitor follows a link, the destination's policy governs. Read that policy before providing personal information.

Some advertising providers may track activity across websites to select ads. That collection occurs through their systems, not ours.

Who Might See Your Data

We do not sell personal information. Data may still be available to:

  • Advertising networks that serve ads on the website
  • Analytics providers that measure use and performance
  • Search partners that process a visitor's query
  • Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal order

How We Protect Your Data

We use customary security practices to protect collected information. No internet-connected system is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee that a breach will never occur.

Users Under 18

This website is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from a person under 18. If we learn that such data was submitted, we will delete it.

Your Data Rights

Depending on residency and statutory coverage, the Iowa Consumer Data Protection Act, Iowa Code chapter 715D, may provide rights concerning personal data. Iowa Code chapters 22 and 692 separately govern public government records and criminal-history dissemination. They do not turn this private website into a government records custodian. At a minimum, a visitor may:

  • Opt out of certain processing where applicable
  • Request deletion of personal data
  • Ask that inaccurate personal information be corrected
  • Request access to personal information we hold

Updates to This Policy

We may revise this privacy policy. Any new version will be posted here with an updated effective date, and continued use will be subject to the revised policy.

Effective date: July 23, 2026
